What's been going on?

This week was a special week for our class! On Tuesday we celebrated "The Relatives Came". It was so nice to see all the families represented in our classroom. Thank you to everyone who came or sent in snack!

We also enjoyed the Spanish dance performance on Friday. The kids had fun seeing their friends, brothers, and sisters dancing. Some of our kindergartners even got to get up and dance at the end!

They also worked hard on print concepts, patterns, color words, and numbers. Here are a few pictures from centers...
In promethean center the class worked on patterns.

The children painted their self portraits in art center.

Here is a group making necklaces using either a color or shape pattern.

In writing center the kids created a class book. It is our version of a book called "A My Name is Alice".

Don't forget!

Apple Feast is Friday! Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to send in supplies and/or volunteer. There are still a few things we need to borrow from you for this event. Please check to see if you can help us with anything that has not been signed up for yet. We also need 3 more volunteers!

You can make payments for our field trip t-shirt, "Let's Find Out", and our Ganyard Hill Farms field trip online by clicking on the "Online Payments" link to the right.

A few other things..

If you have not done so already, please send in a complete change of clothes, including socks and underwear in a ziploc bag labeled with your child's name. Please be sure the clothes are appropriate for the season. We will keep these clothes in your child's cubby in case of an accident.

Please send in your child's personality train as soon as you are finished! The kids are having fun sharing their trains with the class and seeing all of them in the hallway.

I will post the calendar for center volunteers next week. You will be able to sign up to help in the classroom during our morning centers here.

What’s been going on?

Mrs. Dawes loved all her beautiful cards the kids made her! We even sang to her in the cafeteria. Thanks for helping make her day special!

We had a great week and the children are already pros at following our routines and procedures! The children enjoyed learning about their names and the color yellow! We sorted all the names in our class by the first letter, practiced writing our names and friends names, and even wrote our names with beans! We also learned about the color yellow and made a circle map of all things yellow. The children also enjoyed one of our new favorite books, “Pete the Cat- I Love My White Shoes”. I’m sure lots of you have already heard your child singing Pete’s song! The children also visited 8 centers this week during our Morning Center time. Here are a few pictures from the centers.

Using the beans to write their names worked on letter recognition and fine motor skills

In ABC center the children matched upper and lower case letters.

In iPad center the children got to use lots of different education apps. This, of course, was everyone's favorite! They were all very excited to know that we will get to use iPads every other week during centers!

Field Trip, Scholastic, and Online Payment

Ganyard Hill Farm Field Trip-October, 18-A permission form will be in OTIS that needs to be filled out, signed, and returned in order for your child to be able to attend our first field trip. The cost of this trip is $15. We prefer that you pay online, or you can send in cash or check to pay for your child. If you would like to chaperone, please let us know & be sure that you have registered as a volunteer with the school system. The cost to chaperones is $10, and you will need to pay on the day of the trip & provide your own transportation. Siblings are not allowed to attend field trips with our Kindergarteners.

Scholastic Book Club orders-Please look for the Scholastic Book order forms in your child's OTIS & consider purchasing books for your child. You may send money in with your order or you may order online. Ordering online is great for our class as every time a parent places an order online, our class receives a coupon for a free book. What a great way to help add books to our class library! Also, by ordering online, you will receive a coupon for $5 off your next order. To order online, click on the link to the right!

Online payments are being accepted for our farm field trip, Scholastic “Let’s Find Out” magazine, & for the class t-shirts that we will wear for field trips and other special events. To pay online, click the Online School Payment link under “Important Classroom Links”. Then you will need to click Elementary, Joyner, & then scroll down until you find items listed by Kim Thompson's name. When you make a payment online, you will receive a receipt & we receive notification that you have paid.

Thanks to all the parents who are remembering to check OTIS everyday! Don't forget to initial on the behavior chart as well.

Birthday

Mrs. Dawes has a birthday on Saturday!
I would love to surprise her on Friday morning with cards from the children. If your child would like to make a card for Mrs. Dawes that would be great! They can each give her their card as they arrive on Friday. :)

A few things...

Thank you to everyone who attended Open House. I know you were presented with lots of new information, so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!

OTIS

Remember that we are sending home OTIS (your child’s daily communication notebook) beginning Monday. There are a few things you should do on Monday, and every day…

- Look through the notebook and check for any notes from our classroom or the school in the communication pocket of the folder.

- Initial the calendar on the second pocket in the folder and put it back in the folder.

- Send any notes or money to school in the appropriate place inside OTIS.

Please remind your child that OTIS is their responsibility! Allow them to pack it in their backpack each day. Putting OTIS on the shelf in our room each morning will quickly become part of their arrival routine.

Scholastic Book Club

Next week you will be receiving a SeeSaw Scholastic Book order flyer. Scholastic has many great books to choose from. I am asking that all orders be made online. It is the easiest and most convenient way to order. All you need is our class activation code (see right side of blog) for your initial account set up. I will also include this code on the upper left corner of the flyer.

Dates

  1. Tuesday, September 25, 12:30: SHHHHHH! It’s a secret! We will be celebrating “The Relatives Came”. More information will be coming home in OTIS about this event. This is a time when we are inviting all families into our classroom. Keep it a secret though, the kids won’t know until you show up!
  2. October 18th: Ganyard Farms Field Trip More information about this trip will be coming in OTIS soon.

There was a sea of ORANGE in the cafeteria today!

Open House

I hope you all can make it to Open House on Tuesday, September 11 to learn a little more about the happenings in Kindergarten and in our classroom.

There will be a PTA meeting at 5:30pm and then two informational sessions. The first will be from 6:00-6:30 and the second session will be from 6:40-7:10. You only need to attend one session! The Kindergarten Open House will be in the gym.

Open House is a parent only event. There will be lots of important information given out this night and it will not be very entertaining for little ones.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend Open House. I will be out of town Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week visiting with my brother. He lives in South Korea and only travels to the US about every 18 months so this is a very special time for my family. I am sad that I will miss Open House and these 3 days with the children but know they will be in great hands while I’m gone. The Kindergarten team will be presenting together at Open House so you will still receive all the same information you would get if I was there. Thank you for understanding! J

Our First Week

Our first week was very busy and lots of fun! The children are doing a great job learning all the routines and procedures of Kindergarten. This week we read lots of books about what makes us special, always trying our best, and following the rules. We also learned about the color red!

Everyone looked great in their RED
