Time Flies!

It's hard to believe that I am preparing summertime activities for our rising FIRST GRADERS! It's amazing how time flies! Above you will find a “50 Days of Summer Activities” calendar for the kids which includes reading, writing, art, science, and dramatic play activities. This is designed to motivate your child to continue producing, imagining, and thinking critically during the summer days. While it is not necessary to complete each and every activity, please encourage him or her to try as many as they can. The activities will provide the stimulation that is needed to support and continue creative concepts during your child’s time away from school.

You will also find suggestions of books for your child to read organized by reading level. Please use these lists as a guide when visiting the public library or purchasing books. Books that are “just right” for your child will be the ones on their level, which will be included on their 4th quarter report card. To build fluency, have your child read books on an easier level. Books above their level will be too difficult. However, a child’s listening level is usually 2-3 grade levels above their reading level. If your child is reading at a first grade level, they can listen and comprehend books at a third or fourth grade level. Remember; don’t restrict their reading material to only books. Provide the chance to read other types of materials (magazines, comics, newspapers, recipes, game instructions, etc.). This will allow them to discover several reading materials of interest.

Lots of things are going on!

Feeling Appreciated
Teacher Appreciation week was filled with lots of surprises and goodies! Mrs. Dawes and I were so thankful for your thoughtful and generous gifts. Thank you so much for all you do to support us!

Thursday, May 30 - Animal Parade
The Kindergarten Animal Parade will begin at 8:45. This is a very exciting for students and gives them a chance to show off their projects and hard work! If your child is wearing a costume as part of their project, please have them dressed before they enter the classroom. Please remember projects are due Friday, May 24th.

Fabulous Finale
It’s hard to believe that the end of the school year is quickly approaching! We want to celebrate what a great year we have had with our Final Finale!  Listed below are the themes/activities for each day. There is also a Beach Day supply and volunteer sign-up located under “Important Classroom Links”. Please note that this is the sign-up for the entire Kindergarten. Thanks in advance for helping us make this week a blast for the kids!

Friday, May 31 – Field Day
Field Day for K-2 students will be held at Kiwanis Park from 10:45-12:15.  Many games will be played outside, so please have your child dress appropriately (no sandals).  There will also be activities involving water, in which your child may get wet, so please send in an extra complete change of clothes.  You are encouraged to apply sunscreen on your child before they come to school.
